For ParentsPositively motivate your child to READ. It is the most primitive and most important skill for a young learner. Challenge them to read at home every day. Trust me, you'll be glad you did!
It is my experience that if reading is associated with negative thoughts such as penalty or as a threat, your child will not enjoy the escape. Discuss reading in your home in a positive manner. Share with your child a favorite book that you read as a young adult. Or, remind them often that no matter what profession he or she chooses in the future, reading will be required. “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island.” ~Walt Disney For StudentsThe most important thing for me to teach you this year is to ENJOY reading. If you aren't hooked after the second chapter of your book, return it and try a different genre or author. When you find a book you love, it won't even feel like work!

Each of you will be given an AR Goal to achieve each quarter. Your job is to read 20 pages each day and record it on your AR bookmark. Periodically, I will have "AR Checks" and conferences with you to discuss your reading.
